Namaste Y'all

Believe it or not, I’ve actually had the discipline to make it to all of my morning yoga sessions this week. Six days(6, not 7, because we get a day off—though I’m beginning to think that I will fare better if I go daily with no breaks because it really does have a wonderful affect on my mentality). At 5 a.m. E V E R Y D A Y. (As you can tell, I’m a tad proud of myself).

As a newbie to the Ashtanga scene, I was a tad hesitant considering I had no idea what to expect (other than knowing I’d be pushed to bend in ways I’m not (yet) capable of). But, much to my surprise, I’ve been granted one-on-one instruction from Eddie himself—which ultimately means I’m in great hands. Unlike last year where I was incessantly told to put my heels on the floor in downward dog (um…don’t you think I would if I could?), this time around he’s working with me, tight hamstrings, recovering injured groin and all in an attempt to help me get the most from this 30-day challenge—and who knows, maybe this approach will show me what I’ve been missing and lead into something more.

Anyways, here’s a rundown of my first six days:

Day 1 (5/25/2015):

Surya Namaskara (10 A and 5 B)

Standing Sequence

Padangusthasana

Padahastasana

Utthita Trikonasana

Parivrtta Trikonasana

Utthita Parsvakonasana

Finishing Sequence

Padmasana

Utpluthih

Savasana

Musings:

This isn’t too early—oh yeah, it’s because it’s Memorial Day and I don’t have to do it before work…

I can do this.

It smells mighty good in here.

Damn, how does she bend like that?!

And, him? Really, I can’t even imagine being able to bend like that.

No, I cannot put my heels down. And you persistently telling me to do so is not going to change that. Let me be a work in progress.

Is it Savasana yet?

That was actually kind of nice…

Yup, I can do this.

Day 2 (5/26/2015):

Surya Namaskara (10 A and 5 B)

Standing Sequence

Padangusthasana

Padahastasana

Utthita Trikonasana

Parivrtta Trikonasana

Utthita Parsvakonasana

Parivrtta Parsvakonasana

Finishing Sequence

Modified Yoga Mudra

Padmasana

Utpluthih

Savasana

Musings:

I can’t wait to go to yoga.

Wait, it’s 5 a.m. How am I so cheery this early?

Still baffled that I’m this awake.

MMM, savasana.

Whoa, my mind hardly wandered today. That has NEVER happened before.

Progress not perfection.

Must take the quickest shower ever so that a line doesn’t form.

Man, I miss my real shower.

Looks like I will be rocking the wet hair look from now on.

Namaste.

Standing Sequence

Parivrtta Trikonasana

Utthita Parsvakonasana

Parivrtta Parsvakonasana

Prasarita Padottanasana (A, B, C and D)

Parsvottanasana

Finishing Sequence

Modified Yoga Mudra

Padmasana

Musings:

That was such a good practice.

Wait, it happened again—hardly any mind wandering!

Musings:

Can’t wait to get to yoga.

I wonder why I can’t always wake up this ready to tackle the day…

Doubt it’s going to last because let’s be real—I love my sleep.

Oh, but that practice made waking up so worth it.

I feel so relaxed.

Day 5 (5/29/2015):

Surya Namaskara (10 A and 5 B)

Standing Sequence

I didn’t even need to be reminded of movements or breaths!

What a flow

I’m really starting to love this…

Day 6 (5/31/2015) (Yes, I skipped Saturday because you’re supposed to take a day off each week):

Surya Namaskara (10 A and 5 B)

Standing Sequence

Padangusthasana

Padahastasana

Utthita trikonasana

Parivrtta trikonasana

Utthita parsvakonasana

Musings:

I do not want to be awake right now…

I would much rather wake up naturally than to an alarm clock…

And, plus I feel like I’m wasting time when I could be spending it with Mom and Jim before they leave…

Ughhhhh

Something about dedication…

Must go.

Why’d I have to have that dream? Was it really necessary? #Awesome

Dill Weed

GET OUT OF MY HEAD…

I LITERALLY CANT RIGHT NOW

I’m here so I might as well…

I wonder where we will go for breakfast…

I wish they weren’t leaving yet.

Getting all nostalgic over here…

I feel so out of it

It’d be great to stop thinking about everything besides my breathing…

I do not feel like a yoga-lover today…

NOPE

Okay, so over all it was a  g r e a t  week of yoga and I really am excited for what’s to come. I truly believe that it’s going to take extreme dedication to force myself to go everyday and not take the recommended rest day because clearly that gets me off my game and ya girl needs routine (apparently).
